A submersible pump sits inside the well casing, submerged in the water it is moving. It drops down the well on a pipe, often hundreds of feet below the surface, and pushes water up from the bottom. The motor is surrounded by water, which keeps it cool during long run cycles. Because it pushes from below, it can move water from depths a jet pump cannot reach.

How a Jet Pump Works

A jet pump sits above ground, typically near your pressure tank in a pump house or utility room. It creates a pressure differential using a jet assembly to pull water up from below. Shallow-well jet pumps handle water sources within roughly 20 to 25 feet of the surface. Deep-well jet pumps can reach further, but they hit practical limits that matter on rural Texas properties.

Why Rural Texas Wells Use Submersible Pumps

Rural wells across our 8-county Gulf Coast footprint tend to run deep. Depending on the geology and aquifer below your land, a well may go several hundred feet to reach a reliable supply of clean water. A jet pump cannot reliably pull water from those depths.   • Water pressure that drops or disappears
  • The pump runs continuously and never shuts off
