Bacteria

  • Any time the taste, smell, or look of the water changes. A new metallic taste, a sulfur smell, cloudiness, or a tint that was not there before all mean something shifted underground or in the system.
  • After any flooding, because surface water and runoff can carry bacteria straight into a well.
  • After work on the well, the pump, or the casing, since opening the system can let in contamination that a follow-up test will catch.
  • Before you buy a property with an existing well, so you know what you are inheriting before you close.
  • If anyone in the house starts having stomach trouble that lines up with the tap.
